உண்மையில் இந்த வைரமானது தரியாயினூர் போன்ற மற்ற [[முகலாயப் பேரரசு|முகலாயச் சகாப்த]] வைரங்களைப் போலவே வெட்டப்பட்டிருந்தது. தரியாயினூர் தற்போது ஈரானிய அரசாங்கத்திடம் உள்ளது. 1851ஆம் ஆண்டு இந்த வைரம் [[பெருங் கண்காட்சி, இலண்டன்|இலண்டன் பெருங் கண்காட்சியில்]] பார்வைக்காக வைக்கப்பட்டது. ஆனால் ஆர்வத்தைத் தூண்டாத வகையில் வெட்டப்பட்டிருந்த இதன் அமைப்புப் பார்வையாளர்களைக் கவரவில்லை. விக்டோரியாவின் கணவரான ஆல்பர்ட் இதை நீள்வட்ட வடிவில் வெட்டுமாறு காஸ்டர் வைரங்கள் என்ற நிறுவனத்திற்கு ஆணையிட்டார். நவீன தரங்களுடன் ஒப்பிடுகையில் வைரத்தின் அடிப்பகுதியில் இருக்கும் புள்ளியானது இந்த வைரத்தைப் பொறுத்தவரையில் வழக்கத்திற்கு மாறாக அகலமாக உள்ளது. இதனால் வைரத்தை மேலோட்டமாகப் பார்க்கும்போது இதில் ஒரு கருப்பு ஓட்டை இருப்பது போன்ற தோற்றத்தை ஏற்படுத்தும். இருந்தபோதிலும் வைரவியலாளர்களால் இந்த வைரமானது "முழுவதும் உயிரோட்டம் உடையதாகக்" கருதப்படுகிறது.<ref>Howie, p. 293.</ref>

இந்த வைரத்துடன் தொடர்புடைய ஆண்களுக்கிடையில் ஏற்படும் அதிகப்படியான சண்டைகளின் வரலாறு காரணமாக, இதை அணியும் எந்த ஆணுக்கும் துரதிர்ஷ்டம் வந்து சேரும் எனப் பிரித்தானிய அரச குடும்பத்தினரிடம் கோகினூர் பெயரைப் பெற்றுள்ளது. ஐக்கிய இராச்சியத்திற்குக் கொண்டுவரப்பட்டதிலிருந்து அரச குடும்பத்தின் பெண்கள் மட்டுமே இதை அணிந்து வந்துள்ளனர்.<ref>Mears, et al., p. 27.</ref> விக்டோரியா இந்த வைரத்தைத் தனது ஆடையில் நெய்தும், மகுடத்தில் வைத்தும் அணிந்து கொண்டார். 1901ஆம் ஆண்டு அவர் இறந்த பிறகு இது பிரித்தானிய இராணி அலெக்சாந்திராவிடம் கொடுக்கப்பட்டது. 1911ஆம் ஆண்டு இந்த வைரம் பிரித்தானிய இராணி மேரியிடம் கொடுக்கப்பட்டது. 1937ஆம் ஆண்டு இராணி எலிசபெத்தின் மகுடம் சூட்டுவிழாவிற்காக அவருக்குக் கொடுக்கப்பட்டது.
