இந்நான்கு யுகங்களின் காலவரையாக கூறப்படுபவை:

* திரேதாயுகம் - 12 லட்சத்து 96 ஆயிரம் ஆண்டுகள்
* துவாபரயுகம் - 8 லட்சத்து 64 ஆயிரம் ஆண்டுகள்
* கலியுகம் - 4 லட்சத்து 32 ஆயிரம் ஆண்டுகள்.

தற்போது கலியுகம் நடப்பதாக நம்பப்படுகிறது. கலியுகம் முடிந்ததும் மீண்டும் கிருதயுகம் ஆரம்பிக்கும், அடுத்து திரேதாயுகம், துவாபரயுகம், மீண்டும் கலியுகம் என இவ்வாறு மீண்டும் மீண்டும் வந்துகொண்டேயிருக்கும்.

கலியுகம் என்று ஆரம்பித்தது என உறுதியிட்டு கூற இயலவில்லை. கண்ணன் இறந்தநாளில் கலியுகம் துவங்கியதாக சிரீமண் மகாபாகவதம் முதல் °கந்தம்: அத்தியாயம் - 15, சுலோகம் - 36 கூறுகிறது. [[பொது ஊழி|பொ.ஊ.மு.]] 3102 பிப்ரவரி 18 ஆம் நாள் வெள்ளிக்கிழமை கலியுகம் தோன்றியதாக<ref>The Indus Script and the Rg-Veda, Page 16, By Egbert Richter-Ushanas, {{ISBN|8120814053}}</ref> [[பொது ஊழி|பொ.ஊ.]] 476இல் பிறந்த [[சிறப்பு:Search/ஆரியப்பட்டர்|ஆரியப்பட்டர்]] என்கிற வானியலார் குறிப்பிடுகிறார். கலியுகம் [[பொது ஊழி|பொ.ஊ.மு.]] 2449 ஆம் ஆண்டில்தான் தொடங்குகிறது என்கிறார் [[வராகமிகிரர்]] என்னும் மற்றொரு வானியலார். சிரீயுக்தேசுவர் என்பவர் இந்த 4,32,000 ஆண்டுகள் கணக்கையே தவறானதாக கூறுகிறார். அவரது கூற்றுப்படி கலியுகத்திற்கு 2400 ஆண்டுகள் (1200 ஆண்டுகள் இறங்குமுகம், 1200 ஆண்டுகள் ஏறுமுகம்); தவிர தற்போது நடப்பது துவாபர யுகம்.<ref> The Holy Science, by Jnanavatar Swami Sri Yukteswar Giri, Yogoda Sat-Sanga Society of India, 1949</ref>

==கலியுக இயல்புகள்==

கலியுகத்தில் இவ்வாறெல்லாம் நடக்கும் எனக் கூறப்படுபவை:
* அரசர்கள் செங்கோல் தாழும்.கொடுங்கோல் ஏற்றமுறும். வரிகள் அதிகமாகும். அரசுகள் இறை நம்பிக்கை மற்றும் வழிபாடுகளை பாதுகாக்க மாட்டார்கள். அரசே மக்களை துன்புறுத்தும். மக்கள் உணவுக்காக வேறு நாடுகளுக்கு இடம் பெயர்வர்.
* மக்கள் மனப்பான்மை: பொறாமை அதிகமாகும்;ஒருவருக்கொருவர் வெறுப்பு வளரும். கொலைகள் எந்தவொரு குற்றவுணர்ச்சியையும் ஏற்படுத்தாது.காமம் மற்றும் பாலின ஒழுக்கமின்மை சமூகத்தில் ஏற்கப்படும்.
* ஆசிரியர்களுக்கு மதிப்பு கிடைக்காது.அவர்களுக்கு மாணவர்களால் ஆபத்து உண்டாகும்.
* திருமணம் அவரவர் விருப்பப்படி தான் நடக்குமே தவிர பெரியவர்கள் சம்மதத்தின் பேரில் அல்ல.

கலியுகத்தின் முடிவில் கல்கி அவதாரம் நிகழும். வெள்ளை குதிரையில் வந்து கலியுக நிகழ்வுகளுக்குக் காரணமான "கலி"யுடன் போரிட்டு தீயசக்திகளை அழிப்பார். அதன் முடிவில் உண்மை வெல்கின்ற சத்திய யுகம் (கிருத யுகம்) பிறக்கும்.
